I sincerely and warmly congratulate you with opening of new season of summer recreation in the Yuriy Gagarin Children recreation camp. During the time of existence of the camp many children improved their health, and had recreation there, including children of military personnel and employees of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Due to the efforts of Heads of military administration and peculiarly the team of workers, our camp is transformed into the modern recreation centre. Summer is the season awaited by everybody, who loves warm weather, who dreams of caressing waves of the sea. You, schoolchildren, are probably most impatiently waiting for the summer, because it’s connected with long-desired holidays. …Our best impressions come from childhood. All of us love summer. It brings the unforgettable moments of excitement and joy to every one of us. Only your parents are a bit worried about three month of your “legalized idleness”. Parents want you not only to have a rest from school, but also to get healthier and spend summer time with benefit. As a rule it’s best achieved in the children’ recreation camps, where you can have good active recreation amongst children of your age, take part in interesting cultural and sport events. You are the future of our state. You are our hope and support. We want you to be honest, courageous, generous, diligent and patriots of our Homeland. We hope that this summer will remain in your memories for long time, that you will grow as clever and kind children and your parents will be happy with your achievements. ODESSA – THE SEAGATE OF UKRAINE
Fast flow of time separates us from September 1794, when the city of Odessa was founded. The city has rich and glorious history, unique economical and spiritual achievements. It has always been famous with its hardworking and talented people and world-famous national, historical and cultural traditions. Today Odessa is one of the most developed cities in the independent Ukraine, it received international acknowledgement. It maintains direct contacts with regions of Black Sea and Mediterranean countries. Its engineering plants, branch institutions and educational establishments possess unique technologies, which don’t have equivalents in Ukraine and CIS countries. Odessa is the “Seagate” of Ukraine. Here a powerful port industrial complex is located. Effective social and economical policy is realized in the city; the key task of this policy is creating a new quality of people’s life, ensuring the conditions for their creative self-realization, implementation of their entrepreneurial abilities. The buildings of Odessa are of unique architectural style. For this reason it’s called a “pearl” of Black Sea. We are justifiably proud of that here the world-famous talents were born and grew. Not to mention humour and bright optimism, that never left Odessa citizens even in hardest times.
SUMMER OF CHILDREN STAYING IN THE CAMP
In the pearl city by the blue sea the children from all the country, warmed by sun and care, spend their holidays. “The children have improved their health, grown and became good friends” – so mother of Pavlyk and Victoria from Kirovograd wrote in the guestbook. – A new school year is beginning…See you next year” “This summer I have got good-looking tan and health. I took part in “Igrovyy Yarmarok” (Play Fair) and won for the first time”. Sasha Drobot (city of Lugansk ). “I have found many new friends here, and I am thankful for the possibility in communication with artists, who performed in our camp” Volodya Zykov (city of Simferopol). “ I admired the performances of A.Ratiani (“Magic show”) U.Olyanovskyy (“Variety illusion review”). The most I liked the performances of our former camp counselors, who now work in the State Odessa Circus. These are Guram Maglaperidze and Oleksandr Kolesnichenko”. The people who work here, love to work with children and do their best to make our impressions of the camp unforgettable” The new acquaintances in the camp and memories of time spent here remain for long time, sometimes for the whole lifetime. Young people, who became friends here, now hold correspondence and meet, sometimes even marry.
Every summer the camp welcomes children of military personnel, orphans, children from lower-income families and children from parental schools. Children are provided with five meals daily with a wide range of products. Every day children are provided with fresh vegetables and fruit, vitamin complex, milk food, including tasty and good for health yogurts, and also candies, biscuits and buns and many other tasty things. Children can take a warm or cold shower every time they need, they have laundry and ironing rooms in their disposal. There are also reserves of drinking water in the camp. Strict control for maintaining of cleanness and carrying out of antiepidemic control are performed by the regional sanitation physician and medical staff of the camp. Sunday and Saturday are parents’ days. Visiting the camp, parents and relatives can see themselves that their children are feeling good here. The personnel of the camp like their work and fulfill it professionally, and put their heart and soul into working with children. It often happens that after the end of their recreational time children literally beg parents to let them stay in the camp for one more shift. It’s no wonder, because here children grow harmoniously, develop their creative abilities, entertain themselves, find new fiends. That’s why their good memories remain for the long time. Every season the administration of the camp in compliance with pedagogical norms works out a cultural and sport programme, which makes children interested in professional art and amateur creative work, the contests “I draw summer” “Composition from shingle and decorative stones” “Flower celebration” “Humour day” “Island of clowns”. For times per shift a filmviewing with the assistance of actors’ association “Uspih” under the Odessa film studio. Children are especially interested in the captivating topical excursion by bus “Odessa is my native City”. In the camp the educates are taught to respect Symbols of State, speak native language, and are acquainted with national historical legacy and traditions of Ukrainian nation. That’s why their staying in the camp is not only entertainment but also a real school of education them as decent people. The administration of Yuriy Gagarin Children recreation camp welcomes all the children who want to improve their health and spend an interesting time on the Black Sea shore.
Yuriy Gagarin Children recreation camp is distinguished for its exemplary order and discipline, team spirit among the children and special care for them. During the time of the camp’s existence about 50 thousand children had their recreation and improved their health here. Here children are provided with the best conditions fro recreation. The camp can accommodate 225 people. On the area of 3 hectares of green zone the bedroom blocks with rooms for 3-5 people, sport fields, recreation fields and summer stage are situated. The teams are formed according to age, needs and wishes of children. The age of children is 8-14 years. In the camp different hobby groups are organized (for model aircraft construction, aerobics, do-it-yourself) sport clubs (basketball, volleyball, football, table tennis club), everyday many contests are held. During their recreation children attend excursions to see outstanding cultural and historical monuments of the hero-city Odessa, attend catacombs in the Nerubayske village, the Glory Belt, theatres, museums, sea port, make sea journeys on the boats etc. A traditional celebration is “Day of Neptun” (by the sea) “Miss plus Mister” “Ukrainian vechornytsi” “Tonograph of good mood”, filmviewing. Varied well-balanced and tasty meals five times a day not only provide children with needed number of calories, but also let their organisms accumulate many useful vitamins. Experienced physicians and nurses control children’s health. Showers, laundry and ironing rooms are in children’s disposal. The camp has a bus, which allows us to organize educational and entertaining excursions, arrival of children and their departure. When asked “how’s life?” children often answer “we like this place!”. it means that they are having a wholesome rest, learning many new things, are good friends with children of the same age from all regions of Ukraine. It proves that in the camp the children are loved and treated with respect, the personnel cares about them like they would care about their own children, help them to get good impressions of happy childhood.
For more then 50 years the camp belonged to material basis of the Odessa Institute of Land forces. Children were happy to attend the institute, learn about its history, education and daily life of military students. Due to this some of them chose the profession of a military in the future. The military students in their turn helped to equip the camp, organized concerts and man-to-man fighting performances. Children were always excited to see the performance of KVK team of the institute – “Pushkari”. Zhenya, daughter of the Odessa Institute of Land forces, has been on recreational vacation in Yuriy Gagarin Children recreation camp for nine shifts. The camp is like the second home for her. “When I was a small child, it was very interesting for me. Now, when I grew up, I still find this place joyful and attractive. In the evenings interesting quizzes, contests, dances and concerts are organized” told the girl. A military serviceman’s son Tolya Bannyk from the city Izum, situated in Kharkivskyy region, together with his team won the first place in dance contest. Sergiy Kulikov, son of tankman officer from the village Cherkaske Dnipropetrovska oblast, has seen the sea here for the first time. These are unforgettable memories. Annually at the request of Odessa oblast administration, in addition to children of military personnel, here the children from zones of emergency situation are improving their health. Their recreation, accommodation and meals are paid for by the State. In the last summer Tetyana Melnychuk and Alla Zaborey (their parents took part in liquidation of consequences of Chornobyl accident) also had received an opportunity for recreation in the camp at the expense of Charitable fund. Together with children of military personnel the orphans from four or five parental schools of the Administration of Education and Science of Odessa city council are attending the camp annually. FROM “OUR BEGINNING HOPES” TO OLYMPIC MEDALS
In Yuriy Gagarin Children recreation camp great attention is paid to health improvement system. Sport contests, contests, celebrations are organized to help children to be strong and healthy, because we all understand, that “health of children is health of the nation” Two stadiums are in children’s disposal: one football stadium and the other – for small children and handball game. Basketball and volleyball fields never stay empty. Many young sportsmen always gladly attend gymnastic station and j running-track. Here great attention is paid to physical culture and sports, children are taught to swim. Such contests as “Country Sportlandia” (games among the children from around the world), “Sport is for everybody (contests beside the adults) “Sport ring” (exciting duels), football games for the Grygoriy Surkis prizes, chess and chequers tournament, contest “Zolota rybka” etc has become a tradition. The camp dwellers are still sleeping, when the members of the children sports team “Chornomorets” begin their morning race round the stadium, preparing successors for the present masters’ team. Most of them have already won first places as the members of youth teams of Odessa. Between boys of the neighboring camps the football games and contests in swimming, etc. are organized. When children grow stronger and get acquainted to water, a swimming tournament is held. Children also learn the rules of life-saving of drowning person and first aid. Many times children were applauding with pleasure and childish envy to the military students of aeromobile faculty of Odessa Institute of Land Forces. Man-to-man fighting performances, mastery of weapons, high discipline and physical strength of members of landing parties amaze young lads and lasses. The territory of the camp is wide and always clean. Plenty of trees, bushes and flowers create constant shade, contribute to cleanness and freshness of air. Due to care and efforts of the camp personnel it resembles a beautiful ever-blossoming garden, creating an idyllic feel of serenity, faith and hope for better and beauty. Visual agitation boards are places in aesthetic order. They bear materials, which are interesting for the children, inform them and tells about camp life, propagate healthy and active lifestyle. RECREATION IN THE CAMP: SAFE, INEXPENSIVE AND COMFORTABLE
The camp administration takes appropriate measures for organization of safe recreation and health improving of children of military personnel, namely: - engages into this activity state authorities, local self-government institutions, enterprises, institutions and organizations of different ownership forms, charitable and religious organizations, offering aid in organization of summer recreation and health improving of children; - first of all organizes recreation and health improving for children of military servicemen, who were killed (died) or became disabled during performance of their service obligations and doing military service, disabled children, children from families with low income and large families (with more then three children), children of military servicemen, who took part in military actions. The administration of the camp forms educational workers’ council, which includes: the director of the camp, the deputy director for educational work, educational workers, physician, instructor for physical training and swimming. The director of the camp bears full responsibility for the condition of educational and health-improving work with children, financial and economical activity, organization of children nutrition according to the norms, instruction of the camp personnel for measures of maintaining safety of life and health of children. All the camp workers, within the limits of their obligations, bear personal responsibility for safety of life and health of children staying in the camp. The camp workers support friendly and warm relations, but also maintain discipline, which means an obligatory fulfillment of day regime, inner regulations and educational plan by children and camp workers. Children’s bathing is allowed only in safe place, in groups of not more then 10 people and obligatory presence of swimming instructor, educational worker and medical worker. All the premises of the camp are equipped with fire-fighting equipment. Plans for evacuation of children in case of fire or natural disaster are worked out.
The educates of the camp, children of military personnel are thankful to the directors, who have conducted management of the camp and took care about it for many years, and also left good memories of themselves. These are Oleksandra Vasylivna Felyushkina, Galyna Ivanivna Korzhova, Yuriy Dmytrovych Sudarchuk, Maria Ivanivna Fedchyna, Alla Arsentiivna Gerasymenko. Parents and children are also very thankful to those people who have been working in the camp for almost 10 years already and work here now: Viktoria Viktorivna Yurchenko, Oleksandra Volodymyrivna Grankovska, Nadia Polykarpivna Kovalenko, Klavdia Mefodiivna Kovalyova, Ludmyla Viktorovna Silina and others. Especially kind words deserves the deputy director for maintenance Lubov Oleksiivna Ponomarenko, who has been working here for more then 25 years. She is the person who knows all the camp’s problems and perspectives of this development. In course of the year she has to manage the daily difficulties. Lubov Oleksiivna works with the suppliers of high guality foods for the camp: according to agreements there are delivered milk, meat, vegetables and fruit, confectionery etc. Today the Children health improving camp is headed by Anatoliy Mykolayovych Nazin, an experienced teacher and educationalist, “A distinguished worker of the educational system of Ukraine”. He loves romance of campfires, camping trips, waiting for dawn on the seashore… The local newspapers wrote some time ago: “He is a really talented Head and educational worker, who has formed a wonderful team of personnel and who makes everything for joy and good mood of children”.
After arrival to the health improving camp such documents must be produced with the trip ticket: certificate about medical examination, certificate of district epidemiologist about absence of infectious diseases in the flat (in 24 hours before departure), and photocopy of birth certificate. The child needs such personal things: dress uniform (for boys – white shirt, blue shorts, trousers; for girls – white blouse, blue skirt and shorts), warm sweater or jacket, underwear (23 sets) a hat protecting from the sun, rubber bathing cap, sport uniform, everyday and sports footwear, socks (4 pairs) bathing suit, handkerchiefs (3), personal hygiene means (toothbrush, tooth-paste, soap, brush), bath towels (2), water flask, postal cards and envelopes. Children’s personal things are marked by colour threads (surname, name). The list of things is enclosed in 2 copies (and kept in the suitcase). To the suitcase a label with surname, name and number of team should be stuck. Children should arrive in the camp the day it’s stated in their trip tickets.
